French music groups you should know and listen to

French music was hit by artists and titles that were very famous and are still nowadays. I believe that if I ask you to give me one French musicians name, you won’t really know what to say. That is why I am here, for you to discover something new about French culture. I have listed here famous French music groups who had a real success that you should know and listen to! Daft Punk

I am sure you have already heard at least one of their songs, but did you know they were French?

Daft Punk is a French electronic music duo formed in 1993 and reached a popularity in the late nineties. They are one of the French artists that get success outside France since their first success “Da Funk” in 1995. They have always worn helmets and costumes when appearing in public, this is their originality.

Their first album was released in 1997 called “Homework” and then in 2001 their second album “Discovery”. In 2013, they signed with Columbia Records and released an album called “Random Access Memories” which is an international success and won five Grammy Awards. The song “Get lucky” was a triumph everywhere in the world.

In February 2021, they announced their break-up after 28 years career.

Here is the song you have probably heard and there are others, like this one you may recognise.

2B3

2B3 was a French boyband formed in 1996. They were very famous in France but not so much internationally despite trying to release in America a single recorded in English called “Excuse my French”.

In 1997, they had their own television series “Pour être libre” (“To be free” in English) with 40 episodes. In 2000, they did a tour in Europe and then in 2001 they went to Asia for several months where the single “Excuse my French” was a huge success.

The boyband breaks-up in 2001. The have been in a few roles in cinema separately. One of the singer died in 2009 at age 35.

Emile et Images

Emile et Images was a music group formed in 1999. This group was born after combining the former singer, Emile Wandelmer, from the group Gold and the group Images.

Images was a group who sang the famous title “Les Démons de Minuit” released in 1986 which was number one for 13 weeks. In 1990, one of the singer of the group left, there were only two left and the group did not have anymore success for 10 years. It is in 1999 that Emile from Gold, joined the group Images and they formed the group “Emile et Images”. The success is immense and they released an album with the most famous songs from these two groups by re-arranging them. There was one million copies of this album sold.

You can listen to that song for which they had a huge success. I enjoyed listening to it again while preparing this article 😉
